This high quality piece of Ebony was harvested in Cameroon and has been air dried for 25+ years.  It is sealed with wax on all sides after being cut to dimension to protect the wood. Minor checking, bug holes, or other inclusions are normal in all Gaboon ebony and can be easily filled with epoxy or CA glue.
